TikTok LIVE Metrics: What to Track and How to Benchmark Your Streams (2026)

The TikTok LIVE metrics that matter, how TikTok defines them, the formulas to add yourself, and how to benchmark against your own baseline.

Most brands judge a TikTok LIVE by one number: what it sold. That number tells you whether a stream worked, but not why. TikTok's own LIVE Dashboard breaks every shoppable stream into a funnel, from how often the LIVE was shown in the For You feed to how many product clicks became orders. Read that funnel stream by stream and you can see which stage is leaking and fix it. This guide covers the TikTok LIVE metrics that matter, how TikTok defines them, the formulas worth adding yourself, and how to benchmark honestly when no reliable public benchmark exists.

Key takeaways

  • Use TikTok's own definitions. Impressions, views, viewers, ERR, CTR, CTOR and GPM are defined in Seller University. Learn the exact denominators before you compare anything.
  • Read the funnel, not the total. Reach, engage, convert. A GMV drop is a symptom. The stage that fell is the diagnosis.
  • Benchmark against yourself first. There is no reliable public benchmark for TikTok LIVE conversion. Your own trailing baseline is the honest yardstick.
  • Know what each report counts. Seller Center GMV includes canceled and refunded orders, and Ads Manager uses different attribution rules than Seller Center. Reconcile before you report.

The metrics TikTok actually reports

TikTok defines its core LIVE metrics in its LIVE Traffic Playbook, and those definitions should be your team's shared vocabulary. Sales definitions come from TikTok's guide to Shop analytics in Seller Center.

Metric TikTok's definition
Impressions Times the LIVE is shown to people in their For You feed
Views Views by people who actually enter the shoppable LIVE room
Viewers Distinct viewers during the LIVE
Average viewing duration Mean viewing time per viewer
ERR (enter room rate) Views ÷ impressions × 100%
Comment / follow / share / like rate Each action ÷ views
CTR (click-through rate) Product clicks ÷ LIVE views × 100%
CTOR (click-to-order rate) SKU orders ÷ product clicks × 100%
Show GPM LIVE room GMV per 1,000 impressions
Watch GPM LIVE room GMV per 1,000 views
LIVE GMV Total paid for orders from products in LIVE streams, including canceled and refunded orders
SKU orders Total paid orders in the period
AOV Total GMV ÷ number of orders

Two details trip teams up. First, CTR on the LIVE Dashboard uses views as the denominator, not impressions. Second, LIVE GMV is counted at payment time, so on a late-night stream, orders paid after midnight count toward the next day. The playbook also notes that impressions are a better read on traffic than views, and Show GPM a better read on conversion than Watch GPM, because both start from the top of the funnel.

During a stream, the unified LIVE Dashboard updates room-level metrics in real time and lets you pin up to 16 overview metrics. Session totals and exports only appear after the LIVE ends.

Read the funnel: reach, engage, convert

TikTok's playbook groups these metrics into three stages, and each stage points to a different fix.

  • Reach: impressions, impressions per hour, views, viewers, average viewing duration, ERR. If impressions are healthy but ERR is low, the room isn't pulling people in from the feed. Look at the opening hook, the cover and the first frame. The playbook warns that ERR takes 15–30 minutes to settle after you go live, so don't judge it in the first few minutes.
  • Engage: comment, follow, share and like rates. These show whether the room is a conversation or a broadcast. Falling comment rates usually mean the host has stopped asking questions or answering them.
  • Convert: CTR, CTOR, Show GPM, Watch GPM. Low CTR means viewers aren't tapping products. Check the pinning, the demo and the offer. Low CTOR means they tap but don't buy. Check price, variants, shipping and reviews on the product page.

Work through the funnel in order. A conversion fix won't help a stream nobody enters.

Derived metrics worth adding (formulas, not benchmarks)

Some of the most useful numbers aren't on the dashboard by default. Compute them from the exported data. These are formulas for comparing your own streams, not industry targets:

  • GMV per hour = LIVE GMV ÷ stream hours. This normalizes a 90-minute stream against a four-hour one. TikTok's LIVE Diagnosis tool also shows GMV per hour.
  • Revenue per viewer = LIVE GMV ÷ viewers. It answers what each unique person in the room was worth.
  • Order rate per viewer = SKU orders ÷ viewers. A rough end-to-end conversion number. It counts orders, not buyers, so one person who buys two SKUs counts twice. For buyer-level conversion, use customers ÷ viewers.
  • Net GMV = LIVE GMV minus canceled and refunded value. Because TikTok's GMV includes canceled and refunded orders, this is the number to show finance.
  • Cost per order = (host fee + ad spend + samples + commissions) ÷ SKU orders. This is what tells you whether a stream paid for itself. For the cost inputs, see what a live shopping host costs and TikTok Shop affiliate commission rates.

Name the formula in every report. "Conversion" with no denominator invites arguments.

Benchmark against your own baseline

We found no public benchmark for TikTok LIVE CTR, CTOR or conversion from a neutral source with a published method. Treat any single "average TikTok LIVE conversion rate" you see online with suspicion. Most of these figures come from vendors or tool companies with no disclosed sample, and the dashboard's own denominators make cross-account comparisons shaky anyway.

What TikTok does provide is better than a blog average:

  • Market comparison inside the dashboard. The LIVE Dashboard's market average "considers all LIVE Creators in the same geographical market."
  • Category benchmarks. LIVE Diagnosis flags a stream "Can improve" when core metrics are below same-category benchmarks, and "Need attention" when they are below your own past performance.
  • Your own history. The playbook suggests checking whether your three worst metrics keep recurring across your last five LIVEs, and reviewing account-level data at least once every seven days.

To build a baseline, log every stream in one sheet: date, start time, duration, host, products, offer, paid or organic traffic, and the funnel metrics above. Once you have at least five comparable streams (the same window the playbook uses), take the median of each metric as your baseline. The median holds up better than the average when one viral stream skews the data. Flag any stream that moves a metric well outside its normal range, and write down what changed.

Test design across streams

A LIVE is noisy. Traffic, time slot and the For You algorithm all shift from stream to stream, so treat changes as experiments, not anecdotes.

  • Change one variable at a time. Host, offer, product order, stream length or time slot, never three at once.
  • Hold the slot constant. Compare Tuesday 7 p.m. to Tuesday 7 p.m. Time-of-day effects can swamp a host or offer change.
  • Repeat before you conclude. One good stream is a hint. The same lift across several streams is a finding.
  • Pick the metric that matches the change. A new opening hook should move ERR. A new bundle should move CTOR and AOV. Judging a hook test by GMV mixes in everything downstream.
  • Separate paid and organic. The dashboard splits ad traffic from organic traffic. A stream with heavy ad spend isn't a fair comparison for an organic one.

Attribution caveats

Different TikTok reports count the same sale differently. Decide which is your source of truth before anyone builds a deck.

  • Seller Center GMV is gross. It includes canceled and refunded orders and is counted at payment time.
  • Ads Manager uses ad attribution. Per TikTok's comparison of LIVE Shopping Ads and LIVE GMV Max, LIVE Shopping Ads use a 7-day-click, 1-day-view window, with ROI calculated as ad gross revenue ÷ ad cost. LIVE GMV Max counts every conversion in the room while the campaign runs, so its ROI includes organic sales.
  • Ad "views" aren't dashboard "viewers." In Ads Manager, LIVE Views count revisits, so don't mix them with unique viewers from Seller Center.
  • Affiliate LIVE GMV has its own window. Per Seller Center, it is attributed from creators' LIVE streams within 14 days of a product-link click.

Report organic and paid side by side, and report GMV and net GMV together. This is where many brands misread their results. More on that in in-house vs agency for TikTok Shop.

Frequently asked questions

What are the most important TikTok LIVE metrics to track?

Track the full funnel TikTok's LIVE Traffic Playbook lays out: reach (impressions, views, viewers, average viewing duration, enter room rate), engagement (comment, follow, share and like rates) and conversion (CTR, CTOR, Show GPM, Watch GPM). Add LIVE GMV, SKU orders and AOV for sales. Reading the stages separately shows where a stream is leaking.

How does TikTok calculate CTR and CTOR for LIVE?

Per TikTok Seller University, LIVE CTR = product clicks ÷ LIVE views × 100%, and CTOR (click-to-order rate) = SKU orders ÷ product clicks × 100%. Note that CTR on the LIVE Dashboard uses views as the denominator, not impressions.

What is a good conversion rate for a TikTok LIVE?

We found no reliable public benchmark from a neutral source with a published method. Use TikTok's built-in comparisons instead: the LIVE Dashboard's market average and LIVE Diagnosis's same-category benchmarks. Then build your own baseline from the median of your recent comparable streams.

Does TikTok LIVE GMV include refunds?

Yes. Seller Center defines LIVE GMV as the total paid for orders from products in LIVE streams, including canceled and refunded orders, counted at payment time. Subtract canceled and refunded value to get a net figure for finance.

Why don't Ads Manager and Seller Center numbers match for my LIVE?

They count differently. LIVE Shopping Ads in Ads Manager use a 7-day-click, 1-day-view attribution window and count revisits in LIVE Views. LIVE GMV Max counts every conversion in the room while the campaign runs. Seller Center reports gross LIVE GMV across all traffic. Pick one source of truth and report paid and organic separately.
